Morelia & Uruapan
Two friends and I are going to Morelia and Uruapan in August. Any suggestions on accommodations?

Don't forget Patzcuaro, and the pueblos surrounding.

I stayed at the Hotel de la Soledad in Morelia last year and would highly recommend it. It dates back to the 18th century and is just a half block from the main square. Rooms vary in size and splendor. Rates: $90-120.
www.hsoledad.com I'd recommend Uruapan as a day trip from Patzcuaro. The National Park there is worth seeing but the town on the whole is nothing special. We stopped on the way back from Paricutin which is also well worth your time. |
We loved Morelia and stayed at Los Juaninos - right next to the Cathedral. Their restaurant/bar La Azotea balcony is the perfect spot to watch the Sat. eve lighting and fireworks over the Cathedral. Beautiful. Great restaurant too. Beautiful historic building.

I am doing a Mex City-Morelia-Patzcuaro-Zihuatanejo trip in May. We will only be in Morelia for one night and, at the recommendation of a friend, booked a room at Suites San Miguel. My understanding is that is is next to/near Los Juaninos, which we were also considering along with Villa Montana and Virrey de Mendoza.
We decided we would rather not be as far out as Villa Montana and were warned that the other 2 hotels did not have A/C and could be very noisy with windows open. I'm sure not normally an issue but could be in May. Not sure what the temps are like in August, I would assume not as warm as May. |
In Uruapan I highly recommend The Uruapan Plaza Hotel right on the unique narrow but 3 block long Plaza. Huge rooms, 32" cable TV's, Excellent beds, sitting areas, good cafés & a English speaking staff. About $72 US mid week, Under $50 Weekends.
