Montezuma to Manuel Antonio

My girlfriend and I are planning to head from Montezuma to Manuel Antonio on a Saturday in mid-February. We are looking for the best option to get there...rent a car? or take a bus?

This will be our first time in CR...any suggestions?

You don't say how long you are staying in CR but if you aren't going to rent a car for your whole stay, the bus is a good option. They go virtually everywhere in the country, from small school busses that stop everywhere to express routes to the major towns. Its a great way to get to know the real CR, not just the tourist places. It helps to know a little Spanish but not totally necessary. Good luck...

Chris,
We did the leg last June. We didn't want to retrace out journey to Puntarenas by ferry, so we decided to take a boat taxi from Montezuma to Herradura Bay ($35 per person), then caught a shuttle to Manuel Antonio ($10 per person). It was a lot more expensive than getting to Montezuma by bus and ferry, but it was a lot of fun and a lot faster (3 hours total). You could probably catch a bus somewhere around where the boat taxis drop you off, but we just happened to run into a shuttle bus driver we had met at another hotel and he offered us a ride. The only caveat (besides the cost) is that the boat taxi makes a beach landing, so you probably wouldn't want to go this route if you had a lot luggage. Otherwise, it was a blast.

Chris,
My wife and I are going to CR for the 1st time in mid- March and have decided to go to MA for 5days then bus it and ferry to Montezuma for 6days of fun and relaxation. We don't know how it's going to go but we look foward to meeting the people and seeing the countryside via local transport. For our last 3days in CR we are going to wing it and follow our noses after talking with people during our trip. By the way, we plan on flying fron San Jose to MA when we arrive in CR, but will take the bus back to San Jose when we leave.
Let us know how your trip went when you get back. OK? Have a great trip!
Adios mi amigos y hasta luegos!

John & Stacy from San Francisco
