Montezuma hotels

Anyone stay at Amor de Mar or El Sano Banano? They both sound and look wonderful--and we'd like to be right on the beach. Is one better than the other?

I stayed at ESB in December and loved it. We were in Beach Bungalow #1, which is pictured, accurately, on their website. It's set back about 50 paces off the beach. Pretty hard to beat imo.

I'm staying at El Sano during the first week of March too, so I'll be sure to post my review.

Buzzer;
Did you happen to notice the coco joe bungalow. How close is it to the beach? What was the closest bungalow to the beach? Thanks Mike

I'm not sure if I saw Coco Joe's or not. But I can say with confidence that all ESB accommodations are within spitting distance of the beach.

It's a very well run facility. The staff, while sometimes falling a teensy bit short on actual delivery, to a person exhibit what can only be described as pride in their roles as resort personnel.

It's a little bit problematic, in that I now don't want to go anywhere else, so sure am I of a great vacation.

We stayed at Coco Joe's in July 2000 with our 2 children. It was great for a family with a loft for privacy. The location was perfect, truly on the beach. A group of howler monkeys visited us every afternoon. This place was the highlight of our trip.

However, they had no record of our reservation and if I had not brought copies of their e-mail confirmation to us, I don't know what would have happened. So, the first night we had to stay in several smaller domes further back from the beach. During the peak season, it might have been a real problem. It all worked out fine, though.

Also, I guess you know that you cannot take a vehicle up to your bungalow. They took our luggage in and out with their jeep.

All in all, a beautiful place!!

I've been looking for more pictures of the bungalows and found these pics. There is one of Coco Joe's.

Hello,

I'm in the process of booking a bungalow with my girlfriend in late Dec of 2005. Could anyone elaborate on the nightlife in Montezuma? In addition, is the beach in this area surfable? Thanks!

I've stayed at Amor de Mar. ESB has more of a beach. The waves at AdM came crashing on the rocks. As for nightlife, there are only two bars in Montezuma, Chico's and Hotel Montezuma. HM is more of just a bar while Chico's had a dance floor.

Thanks for the reply, Montezuma sounds like a good place. Did you travel to any other beaches/towns in Costa Rica that you would recommend visiting? If so, where did you stay?
