Monteverde
Hi!
I am going to be driving from Playa Samara to Monteverde. Does anyone know how long that will take? What is the best hotel in Monteverde? Should I spend 1 or 2 nights there? Thanks! Sarah

We were in Monteverde in March and stayed at the El Establo...we loved it. The rooms were beautiful with deep bathtubs. We had a Jr. Suite (sleeps 4 comfortably) and had great views of the sunset over Nicoya. We were within walking distance of alot of attractions and restaurants. You definitely need 2 nights I would think...one to unwind when you get there (and possibly do a night hike or the frog pond), the second to do a guided tour of the park and a self-tour of Selvatura. Have a wonderful time!

We stayed at El Sapo Dorado and loved it--nice cabins with fireplaces, friendly and helpful front desk and the restaurant was DELISH!!! Would go back in a heartbeat.

Hi,
You might want to look into Hotel Belmar, El Sapo Dorado and Hotel Fonda Vela.

How were you planning to get to Samara? By taking the car ferry from Puntarenas?

We plan to be driven...from Playa Samara to Monteverde...rumor has it a bridge, somewhere, will be complete soon so it will get us across faster..north of Pumtarenas, I believe. Thanks for the help!

The bridge is scheduled for April 10th from what I hear. It was supposed to open last fall. You may be going by ferry if history repeats itself.

The Tempisque bridge is now open. It's a 4 hour drive from Samara to Monteverde. There is also a new daily shuttle on this route offered by monteverdeinfo.com for $38 per person. We found the Sapo Dorado on that site. The cabins were very nice but the restaurant was a bit expensive in my opinion. Because of the time it takes to get in and out of Monteverde we stayed 2 nights, there is many things to do including great horseback riding, hiking & canopy tour.
