They aren't brought here, they come here and yes, I also blame those greedy American traitors who hire them as well as both the Mexican/US governments as well as the illegals. However, yes Suze is correct, this is a forum about vacationing in Mexico so back to vacationing.

Actually, I live here, but if I didn't, I'd want to visit. The advice about travel insurance is probably good if you're on a tight schedule. Otherwise, I'd say if you're in an area towards which a hurricane is heading, just pick up and go somewhere safer. It's all Mexico, so it's all interesting.

Well, I hope Jersey Sue made it wherever she ended up. I've been in Playa del Carmen now for six weeks and other than the crowds being very light in June things are beginning to pick up for July. I've been to Tulum several times on the colectivo or the bus, gone snorkeling in Akumal with the turtles, been ziplining when a friend came in to town who had never been here before, and volunteered at the Pet Shelter here to wash dogs. I bought a bike to get around, have learned the colectivo system which is much less expensive than driving, and traveled up and down the Riviera Maya. Other than the fact that some people who rent condos are just inconsiderate of the folks who are here all the time or who refuse to follow the condo rules of the place they are staying, nothing has changed as far as safety or friendliness. I have another week here and then return to the States for awhile. I'll be back in Sept/Oct, Nov (for Jazz Fest), and Dec.

Swine flu -- old news. Even the cruise lines have gone back to Mexico without fear. There was never so much as one case of swine flu on the island of Cozumel. Drug crimes -- never been an issue in Playa, Cozumel or any of the east coast destinations. Hurricanes season -- is in October/November, not July.

As for "cancel for any reason" trip insurance. I think you'll find it costs nearly as much as your trip. If a hurricane is bearing down on your destination, the airlines will cancel your flights and allow you to change/rebook without penalty. The resorts will allow cancellations. They don't want to take care of a bunch of tourists during a hurricane. No reason to purchase insurance.

GO, GO, and Go again. Spend some time and money in Mexico and remember to be nice and friendly while you're there.
