Mexico - Punta Mita or Cabo

Hello,

We are a family of 6 adults and 4 kids ages - 1 year to 8 years. Looking to travel to Mexico for my Mom's 70th birthday. The following are hotels we are looking to stay at - our primary focus is tennis, golf, few leisurely activities for us and spending time on the beach. We are going to Mexico as my Mom loves spicy Mexican food! Great water for kids to swim, surf lessons and soft beaches.

Luxury and comfort are key and of utmost importance, As well as kids activities and yummy food.. Which of the following are the best for this. We are looking at 3-4 bedroom villas vs rooms. But can do rooms if the location is better for the hotel and amenities.
- Four Seasons Punta Mita
- One & Only Palmilla
- Montage Los Cabos

When is the trip? What month of the year? I ask because of both weather and how busy places will be.

There aren't that many people who post on Fodor's for either of these locations, so do also read and post on the Destination Forums section over at Trip Advisor. The Mexico forums are very active there.

I don't know your resorts but I have been to both places so maybe can help a little bit.

Hate to break the news but Mexican food is not typically spicy -haha- a few dishes maybe, but more often mild, then you add the hot sauce to taste :-)

I don't think you can go wrong with Four Seasons or Montage. Montage has calmer water and it's not as rocky, but I hate the sand. Love the sand in Punta Mita but it can be rocky and rough. So that's a toss up! Both properties are going to be amazing. I wish I could say I liked one over the other. But, I don't! What a wonderful trip to have for your mom's birthday!

My only advice on renting a large casita.....when you have kids that stretch from 1 to 8. Naps and quiet time which makes for happier kids as we all know, is sometimes easier to achieve when you stay in your own private villa or room. We learned that over the years. If you can't nap then dinners were miserable.
