Mexico on a budget?

We want to get down to Mexico for two weeks in May...Cancun/PDC/Akumal/Tulum are what I've been hearing about but we're open to other areas. Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas etc. We're in search of air fare and accomodations. We don't want an all inclusive...just got back from Punta Cana doing that and we want this trip more on our schedule. We'd like to get a room for about $50 a night and have a choice of places to find our own meals. Swimming, snorkeling and a little bit of night life after dinner will do us fine. The we is a guy and a girl in case there are things you might advise to stay away from. Any help will be appreciated...We're looking forward to taking off again.

you ought to be able to find a decent room in Playa or Tulum for that; not sure about Akumal as it seems to be mostly condos, and Cancun might be tough, unless you want to stay in town away from the beach. PDC has the most restaurants and nightlife; Tulum the least, but the prettiest, least-crowded beaches. I don't have as much recent first-hand knowledge of west coast, but personally i prefer the snorkeling, beaches, etc. of the yucatan _ i just think the caribbean is prettier....

Meets your requirement exactly.Laid back, friendly, quiet, with a bit of night life, great beaches, inexpensive hotels and good snorkeling. We spend one month a year on the island and keep up our own home grown brouchere on the island and surrounds. Just e-mail us for a free copy. dan and ginny

We are booking a great deal through aeromexico's vacation group. You might want to check them out especially if you need airfare too.

Puerto Vallarta or Brazil? Where should we go? We loved Playa del Carmen but have never been to PV. Heard great things about it. Let us know please!

i am taking 3 of my girlfriends to pv in nov. we like to party even though we are hitting our late 40's. any recommendations on hotels/condos for around $50, w/pool and near the beach? barb

Maria Elena May 16th, 2001 09:31 AM

Hola Barb, <BR>There are several options in hotels for you and your friends on the 50 plus tax bracket. November is one of my favorite months in PV and I recommend it to all as the rates are still not up for the "winter". There are plenty of smaller hotels in town, on/or near the beach that can provide you with accommodations that can leave you with extra money to enjoy in activities, shopping, etc. Look into booking with airline package which offer several options. Have a great holiday. Maria.
