MEXICO IN JULY
 

We are two students - male and female - going to Mexico in July. We plan to be there four or five weeks travelling from New Mexico to Yucatan. We heard that July is not the best time to visit because of weather-is that true or is it better to go there in October? <BR> <BR>Has anybody been there in that time of year? What to expect from weather, is it really that hot and humid? Which places must we see? Is New Mexico worth a trip or is it better to avoid it (I heard some stories about tourists being robbed and i wonder if they are true)? How much money do we need (planning to sleep in budget hotels or youth hostels)? <BR> <BR>I hope that I'll get information i need. <BR>Thanks in advance.

it's hot in july. not terribly hot, depends on what your tolerance for heat is. <BR>anyway, be careful driving. if you do, make sure you always tell them you dont understand what they are saying. if they dont let up, neatly fold a ten or twenty dollar bill around your drivers license and hand it over the police officer. that will get you off the hook. <BR>you must go to guadalajara, guanajuato, mexico city, oaxaca and merida. super padre. taxco is a nice detour but not in your direction. <BR>on average, we stayed in some very cool hotels for $30-$40/night. <BR>have fun. <BR>

Any beach/coastal area in Mexico during July exceeds my heat tolerance (and, I'm more tolerant than most). There's an easy solution, though: head inland to some of the grand colonial cities, many of which are situated at higher, and therefore cooler, elevations.

I am looking for a place to stay in Mexico City sometimes in July. I plan on going with a friend and we want to stay in a nice, but very inexpensive place. We want to spend our money on exploring. Do you have any names of places you could recommend?

I liked the Metropole. It is on Luis Moya, near the Palacio de Bellas Artes and the large park (I forget the name). Our room a very large double with all amenities was $40 2 years ago. The staff were friendly and helpful. The neighborhood is kind of sleazy, but centrally located.

Keep in mind that July is the rainy season in Mexico. Expect nice mornings followed by some gully washers in the afternoon.
