Mexico Honeymoon Help
 

Hey All,

My fiancee and I are planning our August 2005 honeymoon. We are planning on tackling Mexico for 7-10 days (haven't decided on that yet). We know all about the weather conditions (niether of us mind the heat, as long as we are by the ocean). We've got the money to spend, now we are just looking for a place (or 2). Here is what we are looking for:

1. Great beaches
2. Nice town nearby with good traditional restaurants
3. great hotel on the beach (bungalows would be nice)
4. lots of Tecate cans
5. Off the beaten path. Not a lot of tourist crowd (I don't think there will be much anyway during August).
5. My fiancee would like crystal blue water, but I'm not sure that exists (maybe on the gulf side, but will that side be prone to hurricane's in August?)

If I had no money worries, the 1st place I'd check out is Ikal del Mar on the Mexican Carribbean. (Look at tripadvisor.com for reviews)
There are a lot of wonderful places to stay in Mexico on the Riviera Maya, with some fantastic beaches.
The Costa Allegre south of Puerto Vallarta also looks fantastic ... check out the Tamarindo hotel as well...

The Gulf side is murky. You'll want to stay south of Cancun.

My first suggestion is Al Cielo on Xpu-Ha beach south of Playa del Carmen; you'll be close enough for a cab ride. Wonderful beach, 4 rooms only, secluded.

Next go toward Tulum: Azulik.

Or Maroma, north a bit of PDC.

FYI: August is fairly busy. All of Europe is on vacation and many choose Mexico. But these areas are so quiet, there is no reason to worry about being overcrowded.
Make sure you get a place with at least a fan. It is hot in August.

Everything about Ikal del Mar is wonderful except the major rocks on the beach and in the water.
We stayed here after they first opened.

Definitely the Four Seasons Punta Mita near Puerto Vallarta is absolutely fabulous. It is all and more than expected from a Four Seasons resort. It is fairly secluded for a romantic hideaway and near charming Puerto Vallarta for good mexican food and a traditional mexican town. The spa at the Four Seasons is the best I have experienced during my travels. They do have private casitas. Check their web-site. Definitely worth the price.
