Mexico during holy week
I looking at a vacation during holy week because of school break. I have heard that mexico is REALLY crowded because the mexicans are on holiday too. Anyone experience this? Am I better off going to Jaimaica or somewhere else because of this? Terry

Have a friend who lives in P. Vallarta you can't even walk in town during holy week it is the busiest week of the year. If you want to stay at a resort and not leave and just lounge around the pool (it would still be crowded)but not ad bad as if you left the resort and ventured out. Good Luck

Holy week is the best time to go to Mexico City. It is practically empty, but almost everything remains open (museums, restaurants, etc)
|
As above, it depends where you want to go. If you want to hit a resort area, i.e. Mazatlan where Mexicans take their vacations it will be insane.
|
We also have the week before Easter off. I know PV is very crowded. Is it the same with Ixtapa, PDC and Cabo San Jose? We are coming from the West Coast.
|
jag1jag1 - any beach area will be crowded. Like one poster noted, the big cities are nearly empty. Beaches are impossible. Unless, of course, you go to a place which is remote and take an all-inclusive.

Just to clarify, Holy Week is the qweek before Easter, right? If so, what about the week AFTER Easter? Do things go back to "normal" or is that still a crowded time?
|
You are correct, Holy week is the week immediately before Easter.
About the week after, it depends. Mexican schools usually give 2 weeks vacation during Easter, sometimes the week before, sometimes the week after. |
Three of us will be reaching Mexico City on the Friday (April 9) and shall head to Acapulco on Saturday. I want to take the Estrella De Oro bus from Mexico City. I wonder whether I need to make any advance reservation.
