You can fly, which takes about an hour, but I don't know how much it costs. You can also take a nonstop bus, which takes 5-6 hours. I don't remember how much that costs either, I'm afraid.

Flying takes 55 minutes but is usually quite expensive. If you do want to fly- the dicount airline Aviacsa might have the best price. All manner of buses are availible. The best is Uno. If you read Spanish you can make your reservations on line at uno.com.mx. This is a non stop deluxe first class bus that takes the toll road to Oaxaca in around five hours. You can also find other first class bus lines like Cristobol Colon or ADO via the Uno website. They are all good bus lines.

O.k. I checked the Uno site. The bus leaves daily at 11:15 p.m. from the Northern Mexico City terminal. It leaves this late because most people recline the seats sleep through the night, then can have an early breakfast in Oaxaca. Other lines have various departure times. It is $414.00 pesos each way, about $44.00 U.S. I did not realize it, but part of their web site is in English so you can check it out. If you are flying in to Mexico City another way to get to Oaxaca is, right at the airport you can get on a direct bus to Puebla. Once you arrive at the terminal in Puebla just switch to a bus to Oaxaca. This will add 2-3 hours as opposed to direct from Mexico City. Good luck!
