Mexico City safety?
I was interested in going to Mexico city. My wife says she read it is the kidnapping capitol of the world. Is it safe going there for an American?
Thanks |
I forgot to ask about kidnapping concerns I my earlier post on narco danger in Mexico City so am putting it here.
If y'all are that worried, maybe you shouldn't go.
It would have made more sense to add to the original thread since it's the same subject (crime).
Yes, we are!!! And we're darn proud of it! And did your wife also inform you that Mexico the country is the capital of FAT? Hope she didn't miss that little tidbit. We're also one of the most dangerous countries for journalists! But hey, why stop there? Let's keep the list rollin'! Toppin' the list for media censorship, high cost of cell phone calls, dead bodies found while searching for 43 students, world record breaking attempts, crazy taxi drivers ... what else do we have for them Don Pardo?
I'm with baldone. Give up on Mexico.
Why are you interested in Mexico City? Just curious.
Mexico City is one of my favorite cities in the world. Tourists are safe there, definitely safer than in many US cities. Narco violence is terrible, but it's not a problem for tourists in Mexico City.

Narco violence is terrible in MEXICO CITY??!?! Huh??!

Not a safety issue per say, but we have been ripped off by a taxi driver and given a counterfeit 500 peso bill from an ATM. We travel a lot and have never been scammed with counterfeit money coming from an ATM machine, I figure the taxi driver rigged his meter and thus we had an outrageous fare for a fifteen minute drive. We pretty much walk all around where we are staying the Condesa and Roma Area and Chaltupec park. Have taken the metroseveral times and walked all over the centre. Have not felt unsafe once in the six days we have been here
