Mexico City on Monday

We have an upcoming trip with first 4 days in the DF, arriving Saturday evening, and leaving on Wednesday evening. Can you advise us on what to plan on Monday when almost all museums are closed?

We initially planned to visit Teotihuacan on Wednesday with a private guide, who will drop us at the airport to catch evening flight for Oaxaca . We are considering moving it to Monday as Teotihuacan is open. How important is the site museum at Teotihuacan? It will be closed on Monday.

The museum there is not important as some others are, like Palenque for instance. The main daw at Teotihuacan is the ruins themselves.

I envy your trip!!!! Have a great time, I love both the DF and Oaxaca.

Thanks. This trip is planned in a hurry. Palenque is high on our short list, but we would like to confine ourselves to high altitude this time. Our trip will be in the last week of August.

You are smart to stay at altitude at end of August. Palenque was wonderful. I went last July. But it was incredibly hot in the town, very uncomfortable. however, it was very tolerable at the ruins, as they are in the jungle with lots of tree coverage, and a large stream runs through the property. And the museum has great AC.

One other thought. you could do Teotihucan on Wed. as you outlined above, and instead on Monday do a day trip to either Coyoacan or Peubla. Puebla is a two hr bus ride in a nice first class bus, is at altitude and is a WONDERFUL city for a day trip, great walking tours of the incredible churches there, the dulce St., the artists barrio and outdoor market, etc. Lovely place.

Coyoacan is closer to Df, it is like a suburb but it can take over an hr to get there also by subway and then a long walk or bus/cab. It is a very nice town with a nice zocalo, good market and shopping, great food around the zocalo. Casa Azul (Frida Kahlo's house, wonderful place to visit) is open on Mondays. see here:

Xochimilco in Mexico City is worth a visit.

Palenque is an experience you will never forget, please do visit the site.

Also check out Agua Azul , very pretty !!
The Cataratas de Agua Azul are found in the Mexican state of Chiapas. They are located in the Municipality of Tumbalá, 69 kilometers from Palenque by the road that leads towards San Cristóbal de las Casas.

Happy Holidays
(I have a blog about Mexico if you care to read, it is still in working process though www.mymexicotravels.com)

Thanks to all for the info and suggestions. I am looking forward to it. The trip was planned in a hurry when the opportunity to take time off suddenly came up. Now that I have done some research, there are so many things to see in Mexico City and we will have 4 busy days.
