Mexico-beach town-non-touristy advice
looking for some advice on some potential vacation spots. Here are our criteria:
1. relatively easy to get to
2. NOT touristy, i.e. not lots of high rise hotels and sharp distinction between locals and tourists.
Would like small-medium sized town, near/on beach. Is this possible?

YES Go to "google" and type in Isla Mujeres--10 miles off shore from Cancun--but a world apart from Cancun .
Else just e-mail us

I live in Cozumel and go to Isla Mujeres a few times a year. The last few times I was there it was so crowded it felt like Cozumel when the ships are in! It is a small town, no high rise condos, beautiful water and great beaches, so I would still recommend it to you. And it's very easy to get to with so many flights directly into Cancun. You might consider staying at a B & B rather than a hotel in town. I met a nice couple on the ferry last month who own a B & B, but I can't remember the name of it. I know there are several nice B & B's there, so you would not feel like you were staying in a resort area.
