Mexico 1/1-1/7/06 - Looking for Recs beside Cancun, Cozumel...help!
Hi all!
My husband and I are looking to head to Mexico first week of January! We've been to Cancun, Riviera Maya, Cozumel already...we have not been to Puerto Vallarta yet, tossing this around! Any other fantastic recommendations? We love exploring new places, not overly touristy areas, etc.
Anyone take an unforgettable trip outside of the main touristy spots? If we do head ot Puerto Vallarta, can you recommend any fantastic hotels, villas, etc? We prefer villas, cabins, etc. to typical Holiday Inn style buildings.
Thank you so much!

You can try Yelapa or Majahuitas - both near PV.
Here is Majahuitas:

Maybe the Costalegre S of PV.
www.costalegre.ca
www.tomzap.com
There are 4 or 5 Luxury properties listed among the many hotels/B&Bs.

For within Puerto Vallarta, you can avoid Holiday Inn style if you avoid Nuevo Vallarta, The Marina, the Hotel Zone resort areas.
Rather stay in an apartment, condo, or hotel in El Centro (downtown) or Old Town (also called zona romantica or south of the river).
Charming and wonderful part of town!
