Mexican currency question
We are going to Cancun in a few weeks, my daughter has some leftover pesos from her trip last summer. So I am inheriting them.
The question is what is the value of coins? She has one labeled "$10 diez pesos" one labeled "50 cents" one labeled $1 peso as well as a $5 peso coin. My guess is that the $10 peso is worth about $1 USD, the $5 peso is worth 50 cents the $1 peso is worth 10 cents and the 50 cent peso is worth 5 cents? (all approximate?) Am I in the ballpark? Sorry for such a stupid question.... |
NOT a stupid question. Mexican currency sports the "$"sign, so the $10 coin is worth ten pesos. The exchange rate usually hovers around 10:1, or 10 pesos to one USD, making a peso roughly worth a dime. You can look online for a current exchange rate by typing "currency exchange" into the search engine. Things will look ridiculously expensive~on our first trip to Mexico, my 7-year old refused to let me buy her a bottle of Gatorade; when I asked why, she said, "Mommy, it's 25 dollars!" My ex-husband had trouble doing the conversions and once tipped a pool waiter $10 USD for one beer instead of the $1 USD he intended.......
Enjoy your trip! |
Yes, you are correct.

Exchange rate today: 10.363, so 10:1 more or less to the dollar as above. When you are talking about 50 cent pesos- are talking about centavos. More or less 100 centavos to the peso.

I meant there are 100 centavos to the peso, it ain't more or less.
