merida restaurants
 

I don't see much posted on restaurants in valladolid or Merida but if anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.

If you are in Merida on a weekend--you'd better be used to eating with a LOT of noise--the restos take their tables to the streets and every one of them has a very loud band playing. We're not fogeys--but we found it hard to have any sort of coversation at any of the restaurants "on the drag". We did enjoy Cafe Amaro--mostly vege--but some meat dishes and quiet guitar music in a beautiful patio. Pancho's was fun for our last night.

We love Albertos. We always eat there when we are in Merida.The first time we visited the restaurant, we were early diners and it was very quiet,no one else there... the owner Alberto greeted us, gave us a personal tour of the eye boggling restaurant. Told us all about the flora and fauna (trees etc in the courtyard where we ate)plus the antiques . There were "lilies de noche "he called them, night bloomimg fragrant flowers at each table that began to open as we dined. Very romantic.

Last year, as we finished eating, a large group had hired a mariachi band to serenade and perform for their table, and we spent a delightful half hour enjoying a few more drinks and watching a wonderful performance.

We enjoyed Cafe La Habana--Cuban food, obviously. Right in the center. And across from the central plaza is a place with the most awesome sorbet I've ever had. There's an elderly man serving there who takes delight in saying all of their flavors very fast. If you like mango, you'll think you died and went to heaven.
