Melaque Mexico

Anyone visited here and where do you suggest staying. Friends have stayed at Los Brisas but reviews don't sound that great.

There aren't really any "upscale" places to stay in Melaque. It's a relatively small town that gets badly overcrowded in the winter months - mainly Canadians and some Americans. A few decades ago it was a good experience, but since the late 1990s when Canadian tourists "discovered" it, well ... it's not been a very authentic Mexican village - except in summer, when Mexican families from Guadelajara come for summer getaways. Plenty of restaurants - some quite good - and the north end of the beach is calmer than the rest, but possibly a bit polluted.

Las Brisas is typical - you can also look at Vista Hermosa, Laguna del Tule, Puesta del Sol, etc. All with bare bones amenities, but on the pretty Melaque beach.

Grand Isla Navidad Resort in nearby (other side of the bay) Barra de Navidad is a bit more upscale, but the actual rooms are a step below a Holiday Inn.

Thanks for the info. Think I will pass. I don't mind a bunch of Canadians though. I am one and always happy to meet people from the homeland
