Mazatlan, Manzanillo, or PV?

We loved PV in 1994, but are looking for
something different the end of September. Has anyone been to Manzanillo or Mazatlan recently? How are the beaches, snorkeling, nightlife? Is the shopping as good as PV?

Any info is appreciated!
I can't answer for Manzanillo but I do know Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta very well. The beaches in Mazatlan are marginally better than Puerto Vallarta but that is not saying much. Neither place has very good beaches. Snorkeling is not good at all at Mazatlan.

Mazatlan is a much larger city than Puerto Vallarta and shopping is generally better with lower prices but not always. Depends what you are looking for. Mazatlan is basically a party town. I would not recommend Mazatlan at all as there is nothing very attractive about it or the surrounding countryside. Puerto Vallarta is much nicer and definitely has much more to offer in terms of culture and scenery.

I just got back from my second trip to mazatlan. I know people, young and old, who love mazatlan. It is not paradise, if you are looking to do snorkeling and stuff like that, but the people are nice. Some things are very beautiful, such as the cathedral. Nightlife is awesome, there are a lot of clubs to choose from and there is good food, and once again, there are a lot of friendly people. I recommend mazatlan to anyone who likes to travel but may not like to do all the "tourist" activities.

PV is paradise! The beautiful Sierra Madre mountains, a wide variety of accomodations from basic to extravagant, an adundance of great, inexpensive food, a nightlife and service/hospitality that is probably unmatched anywhere in the world!
