Mayan Riviera - which AI ?

Considering Mayan Riviera in January - Probably an AI
What we need:
good beach, swimable, not overcrowded - good snorkeling would be nice. We would prefer a beach that was not a long walk from the rooms
Rooms - clean,air conditioned
Food - edible - we are not gourmets
Price - reasonable - not expensive but not dirt cheap ( I believe you get what you pay for)
What we do not like:
Huge Resorts - where you have to walk for 1/2 an hour to get to the pool, beach, restaurant
Overrun with children - Hey dont get us wrong - a few kids are fine but I like places with adults the definite majority
Can anyone tell me about some places that meet my criteria ?
Thanks very much

Either the RIU Yucatan or the Iberostar would fulfill everything on your list, except for the snorkelling. There is nothing much to see except sandbars along the beach on the Mayan Riveria. You have to go on snorkelling trips to spots with the reefs or take yourself down to Akumal or Xel-ha or a number of other spots around there.
Email me direct if you'd like a trip resort on the RIU Yucatan (we've stayed there twice and love it!)

I would highly recommend the Iberostar Toucan. Food in the Italian and Mexican restaurants is great but book as soon as you get there, they book up fast. The buffet changes daily. Most of the children we saw were being entertained in the kids' club and not with their parents on the beach. Even if you aren't near the beach the walk through the jungle is beautiful, especially at night, when you can hear the music in the distance along with the animal noises. I made this sound so good I want to go back now!

This Debbie is always yacking on & on about this RIU place. We all think she is working for them, so watch out for her. She is on just about every site talking it up. Akumal is ok but Playa del Carmen is better. Much more to do at Playa. The lagoon at Akumal is the only thing I enjoyed there. It is called Yalku.
DdM

You want the Gala. A smaller AI resort, beautiful beach - room very nice & very close to beach & pool. Excellent food & service. The best part is that it is just the right size. You dont have to wait in line forever to eat, snorkle, use water sports equip. They have 2 very nice pools, one for adults only. Great ala cart rest. Its just a really nice place to stay. I highly recommend it & no, I'm not a travel agent!!!!Just a satisified customer!

I wrote a review for the Gala on epinions.com:
http://www.epinions.com/content_51959598724

I'm not a professional associated with the resort at all....just feel that it is helpful to pass this kind of detailed information on. It's really the only way hotels will get better or remain the same if need be.

Have fun!
