Mayan Riviera end of June/Early July..... Stay away or still great weather
 

I was hoping to book an all inclusive honeymoon for the Mayan Riviera this June/July but have second thoughts due to that being the start of the off season.

Has anyone experienced it that time of year? What effect does hurricane season have on Mexico in the early Summer months?

Hurricane season in Mexico is more likely to be around August-September. Even said that, as I was there in late August last year, it wasn't that bad. Rain occurred often in the afternoon and for less than an hour. Of course, each years are different but I'd say that June-July you'll be fine, rain season will just start.

We were in Belize in July, and they had just had a tropical storm, so it can occur, but agree that August and September seem more likely.

We were there in June/July 2010 and it was HOT. Rain fell mostly at night until Hurricane Alex swept past and dropped a ton of rain; hurricanes and tropical storms are much less common in June than later in the summer and on into fall and we found prices to be much lower in June. As long as you have ac and are near water (cenotes, beach, pool) I think you'll be fine. It was a great trip. June is not hurricane season which is not to say you might get rain, and a lot of it. I think it's a good time to go. Low season and better rates. As hopeful says, it will likely be very hot so consider that if you are planning any expeditions. For relaxing by the pool or on the beach under a shady palapa, it's a great time to go.

It is hot and humid as hell that time of year. Sweat sweat sweat, uncomfortably hot. Just be aware of that. Some people have a very hard time with the heat combined with humidity.

The earlier you can go the better (within the June/July timeframe). I only know the Pacific Coast but often have been in Vallarta in June. It was fine.

The only months I wouldn't travel are Aug/Sept.

I go in May usually and it is nice and hot, last year in ten days we only had rain one day but we were at Happy Hour in Akumal so just ordered another margarita, rain stopped one hour later.

We were in Riviera Maya early July last year, weather was great, bit of rain at night and during one of the days, nothing out of the ordinary for that part of the world. I travel any month inc Aug/Sep, in fact most of my early visits to the Caribbean were almost always during the summer (I'm talking 80s where I had no knowledge of a hurricane season). I have more to fear about the climate in my own country, at the moment.

I own a condo in Playa de Carmen and have been down there every summer for the past four yrs at all different times of the summer, staying for weeks at a time. It is awfully hot and humid with lots of sweating from June through mid- Sept. July and August are the worst, but June is right up there, a close second.

The hurricane threat is much greater down there in October and November, when is has cooled off some. You can get tropical storms popping up in July and August, I have been down there through some big ones, but they just dump and enormous amt of rain and then move on pretty quickly usually.

jette - Everything I read says the 'Hurricane Season' starts June 1st and ends November 30th; sounds like that's actually just when the weather service watches for them:

A hurricane in June would be very atypical. That's all I meant.

It seems like there's often quite a lot of rain late June/early July. Look at weather underground for rain totals...
