Mayan Riveria...is an AI essential?

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to the Mayan Riveria and will most likely be staying at the Puerto Aventuras Omni. I don't really like the concept of AI's as we will be out exploring much of the time and would like to try some of the local restaurants/bars etc. Is it necessary to book an AI plan? Or are there plenty of dining choices? How close is Puerto Aventura to Playa Del Carmen?

No, AI is not necessary! You have the right idea of trying out local restaurants/bars, and the Omni you're staying at is only 15-20 minutes to Playa Del Carmen, with dozens of eating options! Have a great time!

John,
Ally is right. No AI's for me either!
There is a multitude of great places to eat in Playa del Carmen, a few along Hwy 307 and in Tankah and Akumal.

I, too, would avoid the AI's. You will have much to chose from in Playa and will enjoy the experience.

Thanks to all! The thought of AI's always makes me cringe. I appreciate the confirmation and the great advice I ALWAYS get on this board.
