Maya Mountain or?
 

Am looking to spend about a week in Belize on my own. Have looked at Chaa Creek, Chan Chich, Hidden /valley and Maya Mountain Lodge. The latter has great rates and air conditioning, but I find very few reviews. Anyone have experience? Would like to see Mayan ruins, perhaps overnight at Tikal, hiking and canoing or kayaking, pretty claustrophobic, so not sure about caves,comfortable jungle experience. Appreciate any suggestions. Gracias!

Maya Mountain, Chaa Creek and Hidden Valley all have raves on tripadvisor. Opinions here?

We really loved Macal River Jungle Camp, Chaa Creek's jungly cousin. The setting is wonderful, the tnet cabins sweet, the food delicious and the camp host friendly and helpful. There are miles of hiking trails and the Macal River to canoe on plus you have access to the museum, internet, and butterfly place at Chaa Creek. There isn't air conditioning or even electricity in the cabins, though (they light kerosene lamps to guide you around the camp and in your cabin) so maybe not what you're looking for. The cost is $55/person/night with dinner and breakfast included.

Thanks, hopefulist! I registered on belizeforums and asked the same question. Since this is a solo birthday treat, I don't know that I'm up for no electricity, but I also am a little leery about Chaa Creek prices (when travelling alone, everything's more expensive).
If I don't dive (or snorkel in rough water), which beach setting is best for a couple of nights-village life, birds, dolphins or manatees?

Others will be able to help you more on the beach part; we spent our blue water week living like Robinson Crusoe at Glover's Atoll Resort which isn't what you're looking for. Please do keep us posted - I'd love to hear what you decide and how you like it. Happy trails!
