Margarita Island, Venezuela
Anyone been there? Any advice? We're stopping there in January on the way back from Brazil so that we can visit Angel Falls. I found that good tours to AF leave from Porlamar but I don't know much about the island--where to stay, what to do, etc.
Thanks!

Beautiful island! I was there about 10 years ago with a former boyfriend who loves windsurfing. Not sure of what there is to do other than watersports, view wildlife and enjoy great seafood meals.
I remember filling the rental car with gas for only about $5. Doesn't that sound wonderful?

Hi Jane!
I'm from Venezuela and I have been to Porlamar several times. It is quite a nice place to go! The island has lots of beautiful beaches where you can just relax, or scuba dive, or do water sports and that sort of thing. You can also take a boat to some islands that are close by, Coche y Cubagua. Or try some beaches that are farther away if you rent a small boat or "peñero".
You can also shop, it's less expensive than Caracas.
And Angel Falls is a must! How long are you staying there? If you can, stay for a few days in Canaima and take the boat or "curiara" ride that will take you closer to the water fall.

Thanks. We're planning to stay for a week and will surely go to the falls on an over-night trip. Are the boat rides to the falls available in January or is the water level too low?
