Manual Antonio - worth it???
 

Once again, I need the advice of the more "learned"!!! My wife and I are heading to CR in February....landing in San Jose - heading to Arenal Paraiso for three nights. Then on to Villa Kalimba (Samara)for four nights. Was planning to go to MA for four nights (Villa Nicolas) but am getting concerned about some of the negative comments about the MA area...I realize all of CR is worth seeing, but has MA changed so much that I should consider giving it a "pass". If so...any suggestions for an alternate plan for four days???

I still like Manuel Antonio. It is more built up than it used to be, and with the construction going on it's only going to get worse, but the park and area are beautiful, there is still a lot of wildlife, and the development does have the bright side of meaning there are a lot of good restaurants.

Ditto what Monica said .It is more built up than it used to be , with more construction going on ( sadly ) . But I still love it and do think it's worth seeing . The beaches , park , jungle , wildlife , aND VIEWS ARE AMAZING . ( oops , sorry for the caps )

Also , I do not think Samara in February will be anywhere near as lush and jungly as Manuel Antonio .....

I know I am guilty of saying that MA is more crowded. However, I hope people are not discouraged from traveling to MA, due to this type comment. You have to remember that I am one that can take great pleasure in being on a deserted beach for a few days, which is certainly not for everyone.

For those that have never traveled to CR, then the crowds at MA are probably not an issue. I know we tend to form opinions of new places, based on previous experience for previous trips. So if the word "crowd" conjures up a beach scene of Cancun or lines at Disneyland, or simply waiting in line to be seated at your favorite restaurant - then not to worry!

Yes MA has more cars on the road, but again we have to remember that there is just the one road.

Granted I have not been in MA since 2002, however at that time it was a very beautiful place. And MA does offer so many options for activities.

We will return to MA for a couple nights again, probably before or after a trip to the Rafiki Safari Lodge.

AND remember - The views and sunsets are breathtaking!

Just curious about the comment about the ongoing construction in MA producing some better restaurants...anyone aware if there ARE any new ones going up and whether they are worth visiting???
