Manaus Questions

We will be in Manaus overnight later this month before we leave on a cruise. Can anyone tell us the distance from the port to the downtown? walking or taxi fare? Also can you recommend a good beef restaurant either within walking distance to the port or a reasonable cab ride? TIA

The best hotel in Manaus is the Tropical Hotel, and many cruise ships leave directly from the dock in front of the hotel. It is a beautiful hotel but also quite expensive. It is a bit of a distance from "downtown" Manaus... you would definitely need a cab.

Are you taking the Clipper cruise? If so, I took it this summer and can give you some feedback if needed. Whatever you do, have a great time in Brazil!

Actually, we're on the Regal Princess.

msteacher, I too will be taking the Regal Princess from Manaus.
Do you know how much I can expect to pay for a taxi from the airport to the cruise port? Just so I have an idea as to how much local currency I will need.
Thanks

We stayed at the Tropcal about 8 years ago before a trip down the amazon to Ariau Towers.

I hope they've updated the hotel since then because I found it rather dreary and creepy, but it was just for one night and it was raining, so that might've had something to do with it.

Make sure you go into the city to see the Opera House and the market. Some people couldn't handle the food market but I loved it, you have to appreciate seeing the difference between our prepackaged supermarkets and freshly slaughtered meat. Oh well, viva la difference!
