malaria in belize

Have you taken medicine as a precaution for malaria? If so what?

Here are the CDC recommendations for travel in Belize. I think the risk of malaria is really quite low there so it's a personal choice based on your own risk tolerance. Forums are a bad place to look for medical advice, though. Unless resistance to it has developed which is not the case in Belize, chloroquine is the most prescribed prophylaxis. Happy trails!

link, didn't you ask this question a couple of days ago? Most people do not take anything, but check with your own personal doctor.

MY answer your question is no, I have not used antimalaria tablets in Belize, but don't assume that's everyone's answer.

Whether a person uses antimalaria tablets depends on each person's level of risk.

Without saying exactly where you're going in Belize, it's impossible to give you the advice you want.

And people who answer this sort of question with, "I think the risk of malaria is really quite low", should not be replying to this post.

There are areas of Belize that present a fair risk of malaria so stay away from these forums and consult someone like a travel nurse that knows.
