Malaria
Hi Folks,
Any need to take anitmalarial pills for a trip to Guatemala in July? We'll be in Renate/Tikal for 3 days. I'm not concerned about Antigua, etc., just Tikal. Thanks. |
The CDC site says yes:
cdc.gov/travel/regionalmalaria/camerica.htm#malariarisk We REALLY don't want to mess with malaria so take their advice. |
As noted in an earlier post, the World Health Organizations recommends a Picaridin based insect repellent as the most effective for the type of mosquito that carries malaria.

OK, thanks for the advice. I was in Tikal maybe 10 years ago and didn't take chloroquine then, but I've had malaria before, back in the '60's while in the Peace Corps in Nigeria, so I know it's not to fool with.
Thought DEET was the prerfered repellent? |
According to this site, it is:
http://www2.ncid.cdc.gov/travel/yb/u...sNav=browseoyb IMO Sawyer's encapsulated (time release) and Ultrathon are the standouts. |
