Los Pumas Wildlife Refuge

Has anyone ever heard of this place? I've seen it included as part of a day trip on the Corobici River (in Guanacaste) but have not been able to find anything about it on the net.
I'm thinking it might just be some tourist trap with a few caged animals.
Thanks

Robert,
We were there in August, 2001. Las Pumas was closed. I was told that it was too expensive to feed the animals. The river trip down the Corobici River was fabulous!

Thanks, Audrey. Since you were there recently, is there anything else you say or did that you would recommend in that region. We'll be there in early December.
thanks.

I was there in February 2002 and it was open.

It is a small collection of native cats which are housed in chain link fence. It is more a labour of love than a tourist trap because the owners rescue and rehabilitate cats which are injured or confiscated. Some are released back into the wild. It is worth going just to offer financial support.

The river trip is wonderful.

Robert,
I would definitely recommend the river trip down the Corobici. It was very relaxing, I think it took about 3 hours. We didn't have time to do anything else in this area. The closest town is Canas. There's nothing special here but we stayed overnight in a quiet & clean hotel (Hotel Nueva Canas), had a decent meal & saw a beautiful church made with mosaics. (Canas)

Depending on your interests & whether you are driving or taking buses, from Canas you can head towards Arenal or Liberia & see Rincon de la Vieja. Both are very beautiful.
Audrey
