planning a trip to los cabos in february, wanted to get some input on best resorts? also was told you cant swim in the ocean at most of the resorts but could never find out why! does anyone know why you cant swim in the ocean in most of cabos? was told dreams or solaris resorts were very good. has anyone stayed at either or does anyone know of a nicer place? please help

Resorts on the tip of Los Cabos and the Pacific side of Pedregal are no-swimming due to rough surf and terrible currents. Water temps will be cold at that time of year, too.

Look at this map ... http://www.loscabosguide.com/maps/cslmap.htm ... at the bottom it says "Pacific Ocean" and the resorts facing this are on a beach with strong currents and big waves since it's open to the full Pacific swell.

Above this on the map see "Bahia de Cabo San Lucas" ... here you have Playa Medaño, with many hotels ... this beach (and others in the corridor between San Jose and Cabo) are easily swimmable. So if you want to swim in the ocean in front of your hotel avoid the hotels on the Pacific side, otherwise you're OK.

Dunno about the hotels you mention, I hear they are very nice. We used to stay at either Mar de Cortez (bargain hotel downtown) or Finisterra (nicer hotel on the Pacific side near the fishing boats) or Westin (very nice place in the corridor). Typically the best hotels are in the corridor between San Jose and Cabo San Lucas.

I went to los cabos in December 07. It was a great trip. We stayed at the RIU Sante Fe (5 star AI). The resort is a fairly new (opened Nov 07) property. It has a good mix of people (ie couples, families, singles groups) and I would highly recommend staying there. It is true you cannot swim in the ocean infront of some of the resorts as the under-current is strong. If you walk 5 min down however, it is safe to swim there. Hope that helps.

If you want a low key and comfortable place, look at the Solmar. You can't swim there, but it also means no vendors on the beach which is right out your door. The large crashing waves are great to hear at night. Your beach will almost always be empty. Rooms are around $180-209 for February.

Not a mega high rise, and you can walk downtown quickly.

there really isn't a bad place to stay-Cabos has gorgeous resorts.

It's a gorgeous resort, featured on numerous tv shows (everything from Laguna Beach to The Bachelor). Walking distance to a gorgeous shopping mall and marina, In feb, excursions, etc. You can also walk to "The Office" where you'll have the best breakfasts ever, with incredible views. You can take a small boat out to the arch. In Feb you can get a boat from there and go whale watching.
