Los Angeles Cloud Forest
 

I would like to go to the Los Angeles Cloud Forest while leaving Tabacon and heading to Xandari in Alajuela. I have found that Tabacon can arrange for transportation for $110 (will pick up at Tabacon, wait and drop off at Xandari) but no guide. Can I arrange for a guide once I arrive at the cloud forest? What about a canopy tour?

We were there [villablanca] in March. You can arrange for a guide when you arrive there. In fact, that is the only way they will allow you to go into the forest. We were disappointed to learn that they have discontinued the canopy tour, because of new ownership. The cananitas are very quaint-try to get one with a view of the rain forest, and bring a rain jacket.

Thanks for the info, what is a cananita? We dont plan on staying in Villa Blanca but just spending the day there. Do you think it was worth it?? I have another option to just go to Paos Volcano and see their dwarf cloud forest. What do you think? Thanks again

I think it is supposed to be cabanita, which is a small cabin.

The drive into Los Angeles from the main road is long. You would have to get a very early start in order to get there and have a hike and get to your next destination all in one day. I don't know if it would be feasible, but apparently they've told you it is. The hike we took was 4 hrs long, but they have shorter ones.The drive from the Cloud Forest to La Fortuna took us 2-3 hours.[We did it the reverse of what you're planning.]
As far as whether it's worth it,it looks like all the other rain forests,[except that it's in misty clouds] and has the same wildlife,so it depends on whether you're planning to have other rain forest experiences on your trip.

Checked with my husband--he said what you're planning sounds very feasible.However, you should arrange for a guide ahead of your arrival at L.A. Cloud Forest to be on the safe side.
