Looking for quiet hotel in PlayadelCarmen/Riveria Maya with awesome beach!

Hello,
I would like to surprise my husband with a trip to Playa Del Carmen/Rivera Maya for our anniversary in June. We would like a relatively quiet hotel (no huge AI), with a spectacular beach. I thought about Ikal del mar, but its out of my price range, and from what I read, the beach is a disappointment. Any thoughts on Shangri-La Caribe or other hotel recommendations?
Thanks,
Julie

Try Ana Y Jose Tulum beach, great place right on the beach, great people, try for the ocean front rooms they have two, they are like private bungalos right on the beach. Great beach you can walk south forever and maybe see 20 to 30 people all day, you can even leave your top home if you wish. check out their website.

We ate lunch at Ana y Jose last week between driving from Tulum to Sian Ka'an Bioreserve. Good food, big pina coladas and a perfect beach spot. We'd consider staying there on a future trip to Mexico.

Check out Casita del Mar in Puerto Morelos. It's on the simple side, charming, quiet, ultra-cheap, right on a beach - though i can't vouch for how nice it is other than what I see in pictures. Puerto Morelos is a sleepy little town with a square a few restaurants, a bookstore, etc... one of the best things is that it's the first town out of Cancun, so little travel time. You'd want to take a taxi or rental car to Playa for fun, shopping, etc.

Hi there:
We were in the Mayan last year and stayed at the Akumal Beach Resort. It is a small resort (250??)rooms. Not overly fancy rooms, but beautiful (spectacular)beach right in front of the resort. The resort itself is situated so that all the rooms are facing the ocean somewhat.....no rooms way in the back forty and the foot was great, staff was great etc.etc. but I can't say enough about the beach. Snorkelling with huge turtles, barracudas, stingrays, you name it....they were there. Second to none as far as we are concerned, as long as a big fancy 5 star resort isn't what you are looking for. Have pics if you would like me to send you some.
Good luck, Sandydee
