Looking for a really unique day trip in Costa Rica
Hi - we are heading back to CR on the 16th for 12 nights. Our first 4 are at the nayara springs hotel and we have those days taken care of with bird watching, hot springs, night hike, spa, etc. We will spend the last 8 nights in Guanacaste. On our first trip, we did the Arenal Volcano hike, Monteverde Cloud Forest, day in Coco, Zip Lines and Palo Verde river tour.
We would like to find one really unique tour for this trip during the time in Guanacaste. The other days will be spend beach hopping with a jeep, hanging out at the pool and getting some good spa time in. I won't say cost is no object but if its really cool and unique, my husband would jump at the chance. Ideas??? Thanks! |
Just in case someone sees this post and has a similar question, we booked a private hike and lunch to Rio Celeste through Nayara Springs hotel. The hike is strenuous - don't kid yourself. There are 350 steps down to the waterfall and that means 350 steps back up. Lots of mud, rocks, bridges, bugs and heat/humidity for the remaining 3.5 miles to the confluence where the river turns the 'celeste' bright blue. But....its worth the trouble. Most people just go to the waterfall, we took the entire trek of just over 4 hours. We were then treated to a private lunch along the river on some private property. The owners have a small guest house or two and usually have tour groups at their main restaurant. Our lunch was a short walk down to the river, just the two of us with our guide and driver. The food was excellent and we could've swum just off the banks as well (this is one of the only places you can swim in Rio Celeste). A little pricey but well worth the trip.

Glad you enjoyed your Rio Celeste tour; I think that's the one tour we haven't done yet, and I really want to do it someday. We stayed at Nayara on one of our trips, and it was really nice. They didn't have Nayara Springs yet. Is it connected to Nayara or a separate property altogether? They've sent us some emails about it, and it looks great.

Nayara and Nayara Springs are connected with a lovely hanging bridge. The Springs area is adults only, pool is adults only. Very lovely

Thanks, lahawk - sounds very nice!
