Logistical Quesion - Belize

Message: Hello,
I've made all my reservations for Belize trip and am now wondering if there's anywhere in my itinerary that I may easily get to Ian Anderson's for one of his cave day tours....I'd have to be at his lodge by 9am....

Day 1 AC - Changes in Latitude
Day 2 "
Day 3 "
Day 4: Blancaneaux
Day 5 "
Day 6: Turtle Inn
Day 7 "
Day 8: "
Day 9: Drive back to BC for flight home

Day 4? First flight from A/C to Belize City International where we will pick up a car and drive to Mt. Pine Ridge..

Day 6? Will the drive from Blancaneaux to Turtle Inn take me anywhere near there if I go via Hummingbird Highway

Or as a day trip from Blancaneaux or is too far to arrive at Ian Anderson's by 9am?

Question 2: Also, does anyone know how far El Pilar is from Blancaneaux driving? (looks like I should have booked closer to San Ignancio, huh?)

Thanks in advance,

El Pilar is maybe an hour's drive or just a little more from Blancaneaux.

Changes in Latitude combined with Blancaneaux and Turtle Inn -- that's an unusual mix! The bathrooms at Coppola's places are bigger than the entire room at Lori's place, and Changes in Latitude is not even on the water.

Of course lots of folks in Belize do cave tours in addition to Ian Anderson. But given your itinerary on the mainland, I don't see any room there for a full-day cave trip, unless you leave Blancaneaux early in the morning on Day 5 and stop by en route to Placencia.

Thanks, Lan, again for your insight and expertise...glad to hear that El Pilar is doable but looks like the cave tour might not be an option -- will have to play that one by ear.....

Yes, changes in latitude was a decision that came about because of not wanting to stay in the north (water taxi to town a problem and like the idea of biking around), and there being no space at victoria house (thanksgiving week). none of the more popular, busy-looking places appealed to me...

am I completely off base on this one?

I really enjoy looking over your website...do you live in belize?

Nothing wrong with Changes in Latitudes. Just seemed like an odd combination. Rooms are small, and it is one of the very few hotels on the island that are not directly on the sea. But Lori is an accommodating host.

Better yet, book Barton Creek cave from Blancaneaux.

You know, I have been looking at other caving tour options in the area...I will do Barton Cave if that's the only one that can reasonably be done from Blancaneaus, but some of the others appeal to me a little more, like the Aktun Tunichil Muknal tour...

I'm wondering now if I could do that one on the day I drive from Blancaneaux to Placencia..so basically we'd get up early for tour with Maya Walk that leaves San Ignacio in the a.m., then do the tour, and afterwards drive to Placencia. Would this work?

[email protected] will provide return transfers from BL to Actun TM and the trip.

Thanks, Katie for your response. Thing is, though, we are renting a car for that time period. I have an email in to Maya Walk to see what their starting and ending times are for the tour and to see if we can do it

Thanks again to you both for your help with our itinerary.....Can't wait to go now!
