location of Orquideas Inn

I've made reservations at the Orquideas Inn for the first night when we arrive in SJO. We will be leaving first thing in the morning to drive to Playa Flamingo. Is the location of the inn to the airport and our route good? We need to reserve accomodations for the evening before we leave SJO because we have a very early flight. I'm not sure I should choose OI again. Hoping that someone can tell us if we are choosing something inconvenient. If so, is there something nice and inexpensive nearer the airport?

For a different (and closer to the airport) experience I'd select Hotel Villa Bonita for your last night. $50, about 5 min. from SJO. Owners Humberto and Carmen will make you feel welcome and there are a couple of nice restaurants within walking distance (couple of blocks)--one Argentine, the other Peruvian. We like them both.

I have not stayed at Hotel Villa Bonita, although I would certainly trust shillmac's recommendation!

Should you decide to stay at Orquideas for your last night, it is also quite convenient to the airport (about 15 to 20 min depending on traffic) and the hotel can transfer you there if needed. We enjoyed our stay at Orquideas, but I would certainly consider Villa Bonita as well for a future trip...

Agree Orquideas is a good choice for last night as well. . .for us, the plus side of Hotel Villa Bonita is that it is owned by a young Costa Rican couple. But if you are interested in bar/restaurant for your last night, Orquideas would be the ticket.

We never stay there anymore (HVB is closer to the home of some Costa Rican friends with whom we always visit before leaving), but we frequently drive over there for dinner and drinks if we have time and aren't too pooped at the end of our trip!

The Orquideas is convenient for departing to the airport, and they can arrange for a taxi for you to the airport.

The restaurant there is excellent--we wound up eating there all three nights we stayed.

Orquideas is great - I've stayed there 5 times and have always had a good experience. They offer a shuttle to/from the airport to the hotel for $10 (up to 4 people) and if renting a car you can have it delivered to the hotel in the morning. They also serve a great free buffet breakfast next to the pool, every morning.

Just to answer the question a little more completely, you might want to consider Hampton Inn, which is as about as close to the airport as you would want to be. Check out the websites of the various hotels for maps that show their relative distance from the airport. This hotel has the advantage of being within sight and walking distance of the car rental agencies. There is a 24-hour free shuttle to the airport and free breakfast. There is little there to remind you of Costa Rica, but this has never bothered us since we arrive well after dark and are out of town by 9:30am.

It's nice to be able to get your rental car as close as possible to the source in case they do not supply you with what you thought you were getting.

It's not just a consideration of the number of miles to the airport, but also the question of rush hour traffic delays, especially if there is an accident on the roads.

The Hampton Inn is not cheap, but the hotel next door is a bit cheaper. I think you pay a little more for the convenience.

Since the neither the Hampton Inn, the Courtyard next door to it (nor the Denny's across the way) have much of a following here, I occasionally feel like it is fair to mention it. It may not be your thing, but then it might be just what you were asking about.

Sorry, I botched the "next-door" hotel name. It is Garden Court Airport Hotel and Casino. If you stay there, you get a free breakfast at Denny's. (Whoopee!)

Usually do adventure-inn.com

for on the way out of SJO

Do not forget to pre-pay

departure tax if you can.

Pretty close to airport towards San Jose and they will deduct 1 cab fare from your $79 bill.Canadian owned lots of perks close to the airport but wthin walking distance of water parks shopping.

Have fun,
