letter of authorization
We are planning a trip to Mexico and want to take our 5 month old granddaughter with us as our kids couldn't get on the same flight. Do I need a notorized letter allowing us to take her? I know I would need one if we went to the United States
Are you US citizens? If so, you will definitely need a notarized letter from both parents giving permission for you to take your granddaughter out of the country.
no we are Canadian and I would have to have on if I travelled to the States but I am unsure if I need one to Mexico
I think it's not so much that you are entering another country as that you are taking a minor who is not your child out of the country. At least that's how it is in the US.
Mexico requires a notarized letter signed by both parents if the child is not traveling with them.
I went to Mexico with a friend's parents in high school, and yes, I needed the letter and didn't have it. Could have used Fodor's back then!
You should also have written/notarized statement from the parents giving you authority to make medical decisions and authorize medical procedures, in case the child needs medical attention while out of the country.
