At Villas Caletas there are certainly some rooms better located than others, though all seem to have good views, some are more private and some views are absolutely awesome. The units I like the most are lower down the slope than the main units at the top. There is a small cluster of units at the base of the final road up to the top, near the guard house,I think the number #19 sticks in my mind but I could be wrong. We go there and tour all the available units and pick the one we think will be the best. I think we ended up in a "junior suite" last time. Whatever, it was spectacular. We had a killer view and a semi tame Toucan that would come to to the small balcony and check us out.
Villas Caletas is possibly the nicest property in CR, IMHO. The decor of Bali meets Greco-Victorian is inspired and the grounds are landscaped grandly. Unfortunately there is nothing much to do there and they are so brutally expensive. But I recommend one night stay there if you can afford it. |
Toucan--is there any reason to believe that the weather would be different at Villa Caletas than in the Central Valley this weekend/next week? And how far is the drive from the airport to Caletas?

generally speaking, I've found the weather to be a bit nicer over on the coast this time of year. The central valley gets a fair bit of rain in October - though you will probably have good periods of sunshine between the clouds. I'd guess that it will take you two and a half hours to drive from the airport to Villas Caletas. There are a couple of ways to go, but I find it a bit faster but less scenic to swing down almost to Punteraneas and drive down the coast thru Caldera rather than cross the mountains through Atenas. all depends on the truck traffic at that particular moment. Once they get the freeway finished from Escazu to Caldera, the whole trip will take less than an hour. Anyone know when they expect to finish? next year?
