Leather goods in Buenos Aires

Hi all

I am travelling to Buenos Aires with my mum in November this year for a week after spending three weeks travelling around Peru and am looking at getting a leather jacket while in BA. In the travel guides I have read they talk about getting them made. Has anyone done this and can they recommend a place? Or a shop to buy a good quality one off the rack please?

I liked Silvia y Mario on Marcelo T. De Alvear 550 ( at the San Martin Park end of Florida Street). My husband bought two very unusual coats off the rack there, and our friend was fitted for one and will receive it at home. I saw a white leather one for me in the short style with roll-up sleeves, but there was not one left that was large enough for me to try on (they only had an xs left), and I was a little afraid to order something that I couldn't somewhat try on.

cakes73-
Just type "leather" in the "search this forum" box above. There is plenty of info on this subject here.

cakes73:

With apolgy to martygnc, Florida is a tourist walking street and while interesting it regularly offers tourist prices.

There is a leather district where you can literally walk your feet off looking at different store fronts for small factories. Ask at your hotel.
All locals know where the leather district is. Similarly, there are districts where only button stores will be found, or stores with ribbons, stores of feather trim and so on. A great place to shop or in my case where my wife shopped for our daughter back home.

We found taxi [remis for private services] to be very reasonable and as a tourist,my time in Argentina was very valuable making the taxi or remis even more useful.

I do not doubt that you can get anything you want made to order but with so much available on the rack, you can buy that way and see the final product before you part with your cash.

Great leather goods in Bs. As. My wife and I each bought several pairs of shoes at about $ 75.00 Canadian per pair which would have cost over $ 400 here at home. Good quality, all leather and a great variety of sizes and narrow fits.

Have a great trip.

Woodie
