Laundry for sensitive skin?
How do travelers with sensitive skin handle their laundry needs in Mexico? Laundromats are hard to come by, and the hotel services seem to use the harshest, smelliest detergent they can find. I've tried to ask them to use the perfume free detergent I bring with me, and I tipped extra, over the already expensive price, AND I even GAVE them the detergent, but the laundry still came back itchy and REEKING of the chemical stench of perfume. When I showed them the rash I got from the detergent, they just kind of shrugged, like, "not my problem". So I tried hand washing in the shower, but the clothes soured before they could dry in this humid climate. I'm at my wits end! Please help!

You didn't say where you are located. What happens when you Google Maps search Lavanderia automatica? That is probably the best bet.
If your room has an A/C unit, I find that hanging clothing nearby helps with the drying process. Or find a sunny balcony. Maybe next time pack quick dry clothing? Not jeans etc. |
I'm currently in Tampico. I travel with my husband who is a field service engineer, and I run into this problem in Mexico and throughout Central/South America. I understand that laundry service provides a much-needed income for people who might not have any means to support themselves otherwise, and I don't even mind paying the high hotel service prices since it's all expensed anyway, but the detergent is always heavily scented. We do stay in places with AC. The room I'm in currently has a vent way up high on the wall with no place to hang things to dry. The bathroom has a shower to hang things in, but no vent fan. I think maybe you are right, and I need different clothes for these destinations.

Travel clothesline that is like a twisted bungee cord. Figuring out where to hook them up is the usual difficulty. Between light fixtures?
Sometimes I'll put the luggage rack near the A/C and use it as clothes dryer. But half the battle is the type of material in the clothing. |
Also try asking/googling/searching 'lavanderķas autoservicio'. Self service laundry. Which I did on Google maps with no luck.
