Last Question - What's the best local beers
Finally leaving for CR on Saturday. The only loose end left is to find out what the good local beers are.
Imperial is pleasant enough. Not a great beer, but it is OK.
Imperial is pretty good, as is Pilsen( I think that is the name) If you like dark beers you are in trouble as I did not see any while I was there.
There is also a local version of Heineken (sp?)
Is Bavaria a darker beer? I'm not much of a beer drinker, but I seem to recollect a conversation about Bavaria being dark.
Bavaria is a little sweeter. Imperial is very drinkable (and inexpensive!) on a hot afternoon. My wile is not a beer drinker, and even she enjoyed it.

I pretty much only drink the Bavaria dark while down there and where it is available. I believe there is also a regular Bavaria. My husband drinks the Imperial. It is just a matter of taste. I like darker beers as a rule (I love that stout in England and Ireland), my husband prefers to drink the pale ales as a rule. Imperial is not too different than Bud but it does have a little more flavor particularly if you let it warm up just a little.

Cold does destroy the flavor of beer. Refrigeration was one of the major reasons that large American brewers dumbed down the flavor of their beers--if your customers are going to drink your beer ice cold, there's no reason to use a lot of expensive ingredients to make it flavorful.

Jessie, do you ever find that the waiters always bring the dark beer to your husband? I drink stout and my husband drinks pilsners and they are always giving us each others' beers.
