Cindia... The NW is perfect. It adds also the interest of wonderful landscape to your romanticism...OR YOU will add romanticism to the beautiful landscape! It really worths a trip! Buenos Aires and Iguazu will be too hot and humid. Salta is drier, higher and the climate is great, contrary to what people think. Good food, great wines, and you will not regret.
See all the reviews about the ones who dared to spend a great time in the NW!
What would be a better scenery than colourful mountians taken from a fairy tale?
What would be better than a romantic walk in the Salt Flats??
having dinner to candle light and cool nights in Purmamarca?
No doubt. I vote for NW and if you finally decide to come you will really enjoy.
Warm regards,
Flintstones

Thanks Crellston for the info and yes, I will be packing the peanut butter. Even if places carry it, I absolutely don't buy brands like Jiffy, Skippy, etc...with all the sugar. I don't buy them here at home.
For well over a decade, I've bought Arrowhead Mills peanut butter. It's absolutely delicious. I buy the chunky one, the regular one, NOT the organic one. The organic one doesn't taste as good.
I take it out of the jar and dump it into a big bowl and then mix it with an electric mixer and then put it back into the jar and refrigerate it. Then the oil, that was floating at the top, has been mixed in and doesn't separate again. Happy Travels!

I am with you on the Skippy etc. Guenmai - way too sweet but needs must at the moment and I have succumbed! I buy a wholefoods peanut butter back in the UK which has no sugar and is excellent. The closest I have come on our travels this year is in Cusco, Peru where you can buy homemade peanut butter.

Avrooster Marmite is a yeast extract which is very much an acquired taste in fact their advertising tag line is "Marmite - Love it or hate it". The ultimate in Marmite is that made from Guinesss yeast - (doesn't taste any different but the pot looks really cool! For more info and recipes see;

Scarlett " I have been informed that there is no longer any Marmite or Vegemite in BA" I am devastated!! How can an entire city not have Marmite? -lol

cindia. getting back to the original point of your post, I think you perhaps need to prioritise what is most important to you for your trip. If it is the landscape, then either the NW or Patagonia would be perfect. Hiking is good in either area although better in Patagonia. Romantic hotels abound and you should find hotels to suit in any location (although as others have said , don't hang around or the time of year and hotel availability may make your choice for you!
If culture is really your thing then BA must win hands down although it would be a shame to spend your entire break in BA.

Upon reflection, whilst I thought Iguazu Falls were absolutely incredible, it is not what I (or more importantly my wife!) would describe as romantic and the town itself is a bit of a dump and the restaurant are not great although there may be some v.nice hotels.

While I loved the NW, I think hiking there this time of year will be very hot. It was very hot when we were there in November. We would try to go out around 9 am and it was still hot, made walks and the small hikes we took not as enjoyable and limited the hiking that we did do. If you can limit your hiking and want to see spectacular scenery the NW would be fabulous. There are lots of charming, small hotels at very reasonable (by US standards) rates.

We stayed at the Sheraton when we visited Iguazu Falls and the view of the Falls from the room was great. The Falls are incredible. Didn't go into town, so can't speak to that.
Also agree, that I would spend part of the time in BA and part in another destination.
