Language School & Apt in BA
Looking to spend a month or so in Buenos Aires. I would also like to take some language/tango classes while there.
I have been told I should stay in either Palermo or Recoleta. Does anyone know of schools in these areas or have an opinion on where to stay. For example, Palermo looks really large, so where in Palermo would be the best place to stay? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. |
Congrats! You have won the prize for asking the question with the most possible answers ever!!! Haha, OK so there are a million accommodations and schools to choose from...and I did this whole game a few weeks ago so heres my summary of what worked for me:
I an here now, staying in an apartment in Palermo Hollywood which was wonderful. I wanted to stay in the Kristi boutique hotel but it was just too expensive. I rented this apartment: http://www.buenosairesstay.com/basta...mp;carpeta=ing and I LOVE it! It really is as beautiful as it looks online :) which is always kinda scary renting online..but this company was fabulous. Oh and for the parts of Palermo, I suggesty Palermo Hollywood or Palermo Soho (great shopping and cafes!!!) In terms of Spanish schools - there a million. When I arrived I went and visited a few to see which ones had a good vibe - I suggest this for everyone! I am studying now at Alem www.alemspanishschool.com.ar which is FABULOUS! The professors are hilarious and incredibly interesting...and my spanish is improving! The other schools that also looked good were BUE Spanish School and the program at the UBA, http://www.idiomas.filo.uba.ar/extra...xtranjeros.htm |
Hello Di2, My husband and I stay in an apartment in San Telmo, but that's not for everyone. Our very good friends there are our Tango instructors Julio Marano and Mirabai Deranja julioymirabai.com they are excellent Tango teachers. For Spanish we use Carolina Ramallo [email protected] Carolina will come to you if you would like private lessons. Carolina is a professor of language and studied at the University of BA. She is also a good friend and we recommend her highly.
My husband and I will be returning to BA in Feb. and staying for 6 weeks. Good luck with your search and I hope this information helps. |
Thanks for replying. Victoria, you are right - there are sooo many accomodations and sooooooo many schools to choose from I can't keep it all straight.
I notice that both of the schools you mention are in the Centro. Do you find that at all a pain if you are staying in Palermo. Did you look at schools in the Palermo area? What other schools did you look at and not like. And what are the ages of the students at Alem? Thanks. |
hm...If you are staying in Palermo it is cool to go downtown on the subte or bus to see the city, but it might be a hassle on days where you are feeling a little "fiaca" ...lazy... I am not familiar with schools in Palermo, but another good one is BUE Spanish..Im not sure where it is but my friends loved it. I do though suggest checking out Alem on arrival...you might just fall in love with it! The students range from 18 - 45 with most people in their 20s.
