Landing in Cancun
I have read that some people have to pay for overage on their luggage coming into Cancun. The charge has been upwards of $40US. I was wondering if this is normal and if anyone has had the same problem. We are going at the end of October and I want to make sure that I understand any charges before leaving.

This is not isolated to Cancun. You are allowed 44 Lbs of luggage on International flights. Over that you pay. I was once on a Pan Am flight to Europe and the person in front of me had to pay $200.

Lynne,
We have been to Mexico many times, and take A LOT of luggage as we are divers and usually travel for two weeks or more when we go.
The most we have ever had to pay was for 2 large suitcases, two carry ons, a 100 lb dive bag, and a shoe/accessory bag was $45.00 total.
If you are going for a week, and have normal luggage (two suitcases and two carry ons), you will be fine...

If you are over, tell them it's your honeymoon or anniversary. I know it's a little fib, but it has worked for us twice. Once in Cancun and once in Tahiti (it was really our honeymoon).

Check with the airlines you're flying with regarding their luggage restrictions. On my last flight on a charter airlines they allowed 2 checked bags at a maximum of 44 lbs. each, the first one not over 62 linear inches and the 2nd not over 55 linear inches plus a carryon. On my upcoming trip on Aeromexico, they allow 2 checked bags with a 70 lb. and 62 linear inches limit EACH and a carryon with a 22 lb. limit. So I think it depends on if you're on a charter or a scheduled airlines.
