LaFortuna Waterfall?

Is swimming still allowed at the waterfall? I read somewhere that it was "No longer encouraged"...whatever that means. We're staying in Arenal area (Lost Iguana)& Manuel Antonio (Buena Vista Villas) and would love to take the kids on a hike or horseback tour that ends in a remote / exotic swim spot. Suggestions greatly appreciated!

We visited the waterfall in Feb. and swam as did many others. I don't recall seeing any signs saying that swimming wasn't allowed. Perhaps that's has changed since then.

You could also look at Finca Valmy horseback tour out of Manuel Antonio. It gets rave reviews and also ends up at waterfall/lagoon for swimming and lunch. It's on our list for next Spring. :)

I haven't been to the La Fortuna waterfall, but Finca Valmy is wonderful.

We went there at the end of the day in late July this year and my youngest swam there. If we'd had our bathing suits, the rest of us would have jumped in too. The only sign we say discouraged hiking/climbing on the cliffs surrounding the fall.
