la paz waterfall garden/ peace lodge

Has anybody visited the garden and/or stayed at the peace lodge? is the surrounding area nice? Does the area smell with sulfur from the volcano? I heard there is a odor from time to time.We are on our honeymoon and we just want to make sure that the peace lodge would be a good choice. Any thoughts?

There are a couple posts about Peace Lodge further down. I'm hoping to stay there for a couple nights this summer.

Peace Lodge is an excellent choice for honeymoon---the rooms are awesome---we stayed in our room quite a bit, unlike other destinations in CR. But there are activities nearby as well. Poas volcano, coffee plantations, Selva Verde, Brauillo Carillo...one daytrip/tour they offer is 8am-4pm, incl. boat trip down Sarapaqui river, lunch by waterfall, then ride horses through jungle and pastures to final destination, a canopy tour, you know with the harnesses and cables Tarzan style...$80pp ...we passed on it, and instead hiked the trails right there at La Paz through the cloud forest along the river and past waterfalls...plus there is the Hummingbird Garden and the Butterfly Garden too, very nice. Lots of birds to be seen at breakfast from the patio. The rooms are beautiful---look at the website for pictures. We did not smell volcano while we were there, just the many flowers everywhere. The rooms have jacuzzi on the balcony, with view of Poas volcano (mostly shrouded in clouds) very nice. Orthopedic mattress on a handmade log bed...gas log fireplace, too...Huge bathroom with 2-person tub and waterfall shower in a standup cave. Really wild!

Wow, hearing about this place makes me want to spend my whole trip there! Is two or three nights enough or are we going to be kicking ourselves for not staying longer?

There are several day trips you can take from there as well as enjoy the lodge, waterfalls, hummingbirds, and butterflies.
It would be a pretty good spot to do some of the trips from. What a wonderful place to go back to at the end of the day.

no doubt that the lodge is a cool place , just wanted to make sure that it was not going to stink like sulfur. That would definitely put a damper on things since this will be our honeymoon. thanks for all the input people.
