La Paz?
We are considering La Paz in February. Does anyone have any thoughts on if it's a nice place? Warm in February? We are considering The Hotel Los Arcos and taking day trips to beaches and Cabo. Thanks.

Did La Paz during thanksgiving. Weather around 80 degrees, hazy sunshine. Beaches are north of La Paz, 20 minute drive. week-ends very popular. Los Arcos is on the Malecon, great location, but construction to spiffy up the malecon continues. We stayed at El Morro, near the marina, on the way to the beaches, $60 US a night,Continental breakfast included. Day trip to los Cabos long drive, 5 hours round trip. We went from Los cabos to todo santos to La Paz then down #1 to Santiago to San Jose. Great Scenery. $20 gas for 12 gallons gas. Motorcycle cop outbound in La Paz, watch your speed!

In La Paz stay at Club El Moro, it's gorgeous. Just right! I believe it is at www.elmoro.com (but not sure). Was recommended to me over on Lonely Planet & I was VERY grateful, really saved a solo trip to La Paz in 2000.

Thanks for your replies. Is it a place one could stay for 7 days and not be bored? Do you have and recs for good beaches and day trips in additon to Cabo?

Penny, in response to your last set of questions, it depends on what you are looking for. I really liked La Paz, but it is not a big resort town like Cabo or Cancun. There are plenty of small restaurants, good fishing, some nice beaches, but you won't find a ton of traditional ``tourist attractions'' or a lot of loud bars. If you are looking for a quieter vacation with more chances to meet and socialize with Mexicans than one gets in lots of beach resorts, you will like it.

Thanks for your response to my e-mail. We are looking for a quiet, non-touristy place so La Paz sounds good. Can you recommend some good beaches? Day trips?

EL Morro is www.clubelmorro.com. Day trips could be one day Todos Santos, then another day Los Cabos, but I recommend exploring the East Cape area like los barrilles, Cabo Pulmo etc. How about signing up to go kayaking or taking a boat to look at the flora and fauna on the Islands in the bay? You can sign up in La Paz, plenty to choose from. Drop into Sorriano's Mall on the road out of La Paz to Cabos. Like a Big Wal-mart, but uniquely Mexican. Good place for snacks for the driving around. Watch your speed around there, for there was a pesky motorcycle cop pulling people over. Remember rental cars have unique license plates. Stay in far left lane to keep out of sight.

Spent 4 days in La Paz a year or so ago. Very nice, low key place. Todos Santos is a nice day trip. If you like sorkelling, find a day trip out to Los Islotes - snorkel with sea lions! Stayed at Los Arcos - good location, pleasant hotel.

No acutally it is www.clubelmoro.com (only one 'l'). I want to say that only because it was one of my favorite hotels ever anywhere. A bit towards the south edge of town. Quiet, gorgeous, friendly, not "resorty" at all, just very very nice. And reasonably priced for what you got (I felt).

Whadda dope... I meant only one "r"<BR><BR>Lo siento, S.

If you are in La Paz near Ash Wednesday, try to find out if they still have the "crowning" at the local school complex. It is a very nice local program or it use to be. It is not to far from the Hotel Los Arcos.<BR><BR>I have been to La Paz 3 times and it also has a small mardi gra (sp)during that time.

One person above says the Los Arcos is on the Malecon...Wrong, Wrong, Wrong!<BR><BR>The Malecon is just north of the Rio Cuale river, Los Arcos is just south of the river.

*hello* poster above. please pay attention. we're in La Paz now, not Puerto Vallarta!!!
