La Paz

Has anyone ever been to La Paz, Mexico? Am considering going there for diving. Any info would be beneficial.

haven't been diving there so can't comment on that.
i liked la paz - basic little mexican town. there is no beach per sa in town, you need to head south a little ways which may require a rental car.
las palmas was one of the less expensive hotels when we were there but that was a few years ago.

We drove from Cabo to La Paz for a day and found: 1) we needed a map (found one in a bookstore in town). With the one way streets and occasional odd intersections, though the town only has about 100K people, it's still big enough to get lost.
2) you'll need to be fairly fluent in Spanish as most people there don't speak much English
3) most of the shops and tourist area are along the malecon (I don't remember the street name). The town doesn't really cater to tourists though-
The hills and area around La Paz are a beautiful drive - watch for livestock in the road. The town's on a bay / inlet rather than directly on the Sea of Cortez. I think there may be more diving available to the south at a couple of small towns right on the sea's shore. By the way, those towns (I wish I could remember the names) looked like a really nice spot for a vacation. They're about halfway in between Cabo and La Paz They look like Cabo was 25 years ago -

we also drove from San Jose to the area south of La Paz. Ditto on previous poster, we went to Cabo pulmo and los Riberes. Near there is the last remnant of a coral reef in the sea of Cortez. Check out the guide books and it will fill you in.

Went fishing in La Paz and enjoyed it very much. Stayed at Los Arcos in town. Nice non-touristy town. Much quieter than Cabo or the other big resorts. Los Arcos was OK. Not much to do but stroll around town and check out the locals.
Fishing was amazing. I don't dive so can't help on that one.

We are going there this winter in February. I hope it's not too cold then. Does anyone know? We are staying in La Paz at Los Arcos. Would anyone who has been there recommend the bayview rooms or the cabanas? We don't know much about La Paz and are worried we may be making a mistake?
