Just Tango, not the big Dinner Show
 

We'll have a huge lunch and won't want to do another huge meal. We are looking for suggestions for a Tango venue where we can go about 9:00/9:30 and have a drink - and a light meal - snacks. The big production isn't necessary either, and would really prefer a smaller place. But we have to see some Tango!

Did anyone do this? We won't get to our Hotel until about 6:00 (and want to rest for a while). We thought we'd better plan ahead as that may be too late to go through the Hotel.

Please help with the name of a venue/suggestions/comments, etc.

Cafe Tortoni has 2 shows--the late show should meet your time. They have about a $2 entrance fee and a small recommended minimum--you can easily cover it with a drink or two and apps. It was a great show and the MC interacted quite a bit with the audience making for a fun evening. I would check with your hotel as they should be able to make the reservations for you.

I think most all shows offer the alternative of drinks and some snacks instead of the big dinner. This is what we did in the Piazzola show place. A drink and some snacks was included. Very pleasant.
Of course we paid less than the dinner and show option.

The time issue is important to us. We really will have to rest for a while before the show and are hoping to have a later show.
If you just go to a show and skip the dinner, does that mean you come a good bit later? I think I read somewhere that if you don't have dinner you get stuck at the back, and I'm a miserly 5'3" (and shrinking)!

We saw three Tango shows while in BA and did not have dinner at any of them. I recommended Cafe Tortoni because we left from the hotel at the latest time via taxi. Showtime I think was around 10:30. Some of the other Tango places have vans pick u up and they make several stops so unless your hotel is one of the last stops, you have quite a long lead time between van pick-up and show itself. I think the shows start around 10 if you skip the dinner. If you have your hotel make reservations (no doubt where ever u choose) I think u might get better seats. At Cafe Tortoni our hotel made the reservations that afternoon and we we right up front.

On 21 Oct, we gave the honcho at Cafe Tortoni a $10. peso tip as we didn't have res and got a front row seat.
Had a wonderful bottle of Malbec, veggie (mostly espinaca which is large enough to split) tarte and a personal pizza for less than $36. US incl tip.

Are tango shows on a stage with concert type seating or does each group/party have their own table and the show is the centre?

We had dinner at the Four Seasons and after dinner we sat in a room where there was a Tango show, no charge, just drinks or dessert while you watch.
We had no idea until while we were having dinner we heard the music and applause. It might not be the biggest or best but you cannot beat the great seats and price.
We were given the name of a Milonga that would be fun, El Besa on Riobamba.
Hae fun, we are having such a fabulous time here, do I really have to come home?
