Thanks, JC. We've decided to go to the Lake. We'll figure out what we're doing when we get there. I've not had any luck getting information other than the standard tours. My husband doesn't want to do the tour as there is so much time in the boat. We're following your itinerary pretty closely and staying in a couple of the same places. We're looking forward to this adventure!

Which side of the train to Machu Picchu has the best view?
Leaving in 6 days... Thanks. |
Going to MP -- Left Side.
But our Vistadome train was pretty empty when we went-- only 4 passengers--so we could sit anywhere and hogged up multiple seats. We turned the seats around to face each to put our legs up--hogged up 8 seats total--4 on the left side and 4 on the right side. :) |
Just re-read my old post and relived the trip. Let me know if you have questions, and hopefully I still remember!

I only have a week and half in peru; can you tell me maybe the best use of my time?
I want to see manchu pichu, and was wondering if I should fly right into cuzsco? Also, is the amazon tours any good in peru, or should i try to do this in brazil? Thanks! |
I didn't do the Amazon, so can't comment there. Yes, you need to fly into Cusco, and from there go to Machu Picchu. I hired a taxi to go from Cusco to Ollantaytambo (a small village in the Sacred Valley) and took the train from there. There are also trains that leave from Cusco, but I don't much about it.
You can look at the itinerary that I had and see if it interests you. I had close to 2 weeks, but you could cut out some days in Lima and anything else that not interests you. |
Thanks:)
