Hi, BocaGirl - I didn't see the condos for rent while we were there, but we did see a lot of new housing construction. They had literature regarding lots for sale, and it looks like a pretty upscale neighborhood is going in back behind the property.

Thanks for a great trip report, Volcanogirl! Lots of wonderful little details to make it all come alive. It makes me so excited to read about the great time you had at BDC and PeaceLodge. I'll be there in 3 weeks.

Just got back from CR around 1 am this morning and since my car battery is dead thought I would jump on here instead of grocery shopping. What fun to read everyone's reports. I feel like I haven't left. I was there for just short of 5 weeks and it still wasn't long enough.

We had to admit to enjoying Peace Lodge too. We just don't normally go to places like that. They have done a lot of work since we were there so we will have to get back someday.

Sounds like BdC has another satisfied customer! Glad your husband got to see the toucan finally. We never tire of seeing them. Costa Rica is an amazing place and even after 15 years of travel down there we still get surprises on every trip.

Haven't read your VdV part yet but now that I can't go anywhere I will.

Glad you had such a wonderful time.

Oh, wow, spookysee - I am so happy for you. I know you will have a wonderful time!

By the way, the Peace Lodge was doing even more construction while we were there - putting in some sort of monkey house, but I really like seeing the little guys in the wild like at BdC.

Welcome back, Suzie2 - that stinks about your battery - not a nice thing to come home to. We should form a support group for people who love the Peace Lodge - hello, my name is volcanogirl, and I love the Peace Lodge! Going there seems like some kind of secret vice, but I do love it.

15 years of CR travel is amazing - I would love to follow in your footsteps. Welcome home.

Hi VG,

I just read your full VdV review. Thanks for giving your honest opinion. Their website has some gorgeous photos and the hotel certainly gets some nice reviews here; guess you just need to research the room choices as best you can before booking. I enjoyed reading about the Les Miserablesque barricade. I would probably have done the same. :-)

Thanks for taking the time to provide such an enjoyable report!

Volcanogirl, loved your report. You do such a nice job of describing your trip. It's funny how everybody has different tastes. The Mona Lisa is one of the first to book up. We have stayed several times and it's our favorite. I admit it's rustic, but so private and right in the trees. I can't imagine anyone walking up and leaning over the wall to look into the shower. (love that shower!) We didn't see ay toucans there--you were lucky, but there was the cutest Motmot that visited us every day.

volcanogirl Jul 14th, 2007 06:59 AM

Thanks, Marcia - you're right - tastes are so different. Someone told me I should have stayed in Nido because it's amazing, and someone else highly recommended the Exotic Woods Suite, so it seems like they have something for everyone there. We did love that little toucan.

cmerrell, LOL - that's my favorite musical, and that's completely what it reminded me of! I'm going to spend today going through our pictures - all 700 of them. We got some beautiful shots.

volcanogirl, thanks for posting your trip report, and I look forward to reading it. Friends are planning their anniversary trip to Costa Rica and I will show them your report.

volcanogirl Jul 18th, 2007 04:49 PM

Melissa - you're welcome; I hope it helps them in their planning. I read so many trip reports, and they helped me so much. I think I read yours too!

I just got an e-mail from a couple we met at Bosque del Cabo, and we're exchanging pictures. We've got the Costa Rica bug just like you. I hope your friends have a wonderful anniversary.

sounds like an amazing trip! I'm so jealous. Thanks for mentioning this trip report in my other post. This definitely makes me lean toward the osa area. Now you just need to post some pics and ill be set! :-)

volcanogirl Jul 19th, 2007 01:32 PM

jen, that's exactly how we got hooked on the Osa and BdC - by reading other people's trip reports. I have all my photos in iPhoto, but I don't have an off site account like Snapfish or anything, and I think that's the only way to post them. I would love to post my pics here; I got one of a howler mom with baby on her back right in front of our cabin, pics of macaws and toucans, and one of two capuchins with two babies - also right in front of our cabin. Seriously I did not even get up off the lawn chair - LOL!
